Magnifying the Word | February 7, 2020 at 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM
Story Tapestries as part of the Creative Consortium at BlackRock Center for the Arts is presenting an innovative workshop and performance series this spring 2020. Magnifying the Word, an interactive, spoken word and poetry workshop and performance series, is the perfect opportunity for anyone—at all levels of experience—who wants to build their skills and learn from experienced, nationally-recognized spoken word artists.
We can’t wait to see you there!
Our first evening in the series features talented spoken word artist, Dwayne Lawson-Brown.
Dwayne Lawson-Brown is a Washington, DC native poet, activist, break dancer, and a host of DC’s longest running open mic series, Spit Dat. In addition to featured readings at every Busboys and Poets location, SAGAfest Iceland 2015, Spirits and Lyrics, Woolly Mammoth Theater, and the C2EA We Can End AIDS March, Dwayne’s short form poetry prowess led him to win the Best Haiku Award at the 2011 National Underground Spoken-Word Poetry Awards. His work to increase HIV-awareness through spoken-word garnered recognition from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, BBC America, Discovery Channel, and The Washington Post.
