Check out this letter of appreciation from our partners at LAYC/MMYC Silver Spring. Special thanks to our partners at Glen Echo Park for making this possible!
Youth participants are engaged in a Digital Fundamentals course led by Story Tapestries and made possible by funding support primarily from Comcast/NBCUniversal with additional support from OmniSystems and the Maryland State Arts Council.
Dear Team,
As we approach the end of the week – just want to give our friend Michelle Faulkner-Forson from Story Tapestries a HUGE thank you for putting together a unique field trip for our RLA GED students and Corps members this week.
On Tuesday, it drizzled and poured but that did not stop us from going out and trying something new! Nine young people and four staff visited Glen Echo Park for the first time thanks to Michelle and the lovely Glen Echo Park team – Ms. Jenni & Ms. Ama. The team educated us on the civil rights history of the park, introduced us to two in-house artists and their studio, and provided us with a delicious lunch.
Michelle brought disposable cameras and had our youth pair up to explore the park through photography! She encouraged them to find what speaks to them and have fun with it.
The photographs youth took are in the process of being developed and will be reviewed/selected/showcased for all to see at an upcoming event. More to come on that!
It was a lovely day.
Michelle & Glen Echo team – THANK YOU for creating opportunities for our young adults.
We appreciate you,
– LAYC/MMYC Silver Spring
