Why is this work important?

At the heart of Story Tapestries is the desire to showcase and present literary artists as well as to empower people to identify and access their personal strengths and boost their areas of weakness through participation in literary and performing arts experiences.
Eighty-five percent of our artists are literary artists. Twenty percent of our offerings are one-time “spark” programs and performances that serve to inspire and motivate audiences to engage in the arts and to attend other performances or workshops. Eighty percent of our programs are “intensive” in-depth arts and writers experiences that enable collaboration with others and result in participants’ increased confidence in speaking in front of others and presenting their ideas via performance or display.
The importance of Story Tapestries:
- Presenting literary artists in libraries, museums, schools, parks, and community venues.
- Expanding where and how literary arts are experienced, ensuring that writers including poets, hip hop artists, and storytellers reach audiences beyond conventional literary stages.
- Strengthening communities by helping partners build self-sufficient, sustainable arts-based programs.
- Increasing access to arts integration programs for high-need communities.
- Becoming a resource for arts integration in education and community development, online and in person.
