Art Museum of West Virginia University

The Art Museum of WVU was dedicated and opened its doors August 25, 2015. The facility includes, two art galleries totaling approximately 5,400 square-feet of exhibition space, a collection research and study room for examination of works of art, a collection storage area to securely protect and preserve works of art, and an outdoor sculpture garden. The Art Museum of WVU provides a welcoming and stimulating educational environment for diverse audiences to experience the transformative power of art.

Mission Statement

By exploring the varied artistic traditions of different cultures, past and present, the Art Museum of WVU helps us to understand ourselves, our communities and our world.The Museum aims to expand educational opportunities for WVU students, faculty and staff while serving as a cultural resource for northern West Virginia and the surrounding region.

Activities and Programs

Programs that support the Museum’s mission include: Exhibitions organized from the museum’s collection, which includes paintings, prints and works on paper, sculpture, ceramics and folk art. The museum also brings touring exhibits to Morgantown. In conjunction with its various exhibits, the museum presents artist demonstrations, workshops, school programs, lectures, concerts and theatrical performances that expand upon the exhibit themes and engage a range of multi-generational audiences in active learning across the disciplines.
